The Year of Waxahatchee

“It’s a state of mind you design

You get everything you want"

Something to know about Luck is that we really give a damn about the people that we bring into the Family. Long before Katie Crutchfield stepped on our Barn Stage in 2018 we had a lot of feelings about her. As we chatted about who was listening to what, the name Waxahatchee slipped frequently into conversation. More than a few of us had been moved by a certain lyric, or had a personal attachment to an album or song.

One of us learned through a mid-2000s Pitchfork feature of an artist that is far more interesting than the town of Waxahachie, Texas. (But was freshly inspired to visit her hometown of Waxahatchee Creek, Alabama). And truly longed for her to play Luck one day.

Her journey as an unabashed powerhouse — exhibiting how vulnerability and strength can go hand-in-hand — is exactly what connects our Luck Family Members.

We’ve unofficially (kind of officially) dubbed 2025 the year of Waxahatchee.

On the heels of the 2024 release of her Grammy-nominated album, “Tigers Blood”, we’ve included it as our featured February Luck Family Record Club record

And we will get to welcome her back to Luck, Texas on March 14 alongside Lucinda Williams & friends for a sure to be unforgettable night in our favorite place.

We’re thrilled to know her, and can’t wait to see her continue designing everything she damn wants.
